Mahjong 102: Tuesday, August 11th, 6PM-8PM

Mahjong Lessons

Join us for an engaging two-part introduction to the timeless game of American Mahjong. Whether you’re brand new or looking to refresh your skills, this class is the perfect place to learn in a fun, social setting with friends

Classes will be taught by Katie Duffy, founder of the KC Mahjong Club Cost: $125 - This is a 2-session course to learn the game – signup is for both lessons and you will receive your own AMJL card

Mahjong 101

We’ll explore the history of the game, get familiar with the tiles, and learn how to read the National Mahjong League card (you’ll receive a card to keep). We’ll also walk through the deal, the Charleston, and the overall flow of gameplay.

Mahjong 102

Continue with a guided play session designed to build confidence and deepen your understanding of the game. We’ll review key concepts from the previous lesson, then put them into practice as you play with step-by-step support and helpful strategy tips along the way.

About the Instructor

Katie started playing Mahjong about five years ago. She was immediately hooked! After playing

with a group of friends for a few years, she wanted to "spread the love" of the game with others

and build a community.

She quickly realized there was no dedicated place in KC where you could show up, play and

maybe meet new friends. After doing a little research, she learned she was not alone. Katie

learned that other cities had clubs to learn and play American Mahjong, and she thought

Kansas City needed its own dedicated group.

So, in September of 2024, KC Mahjong Club was born! Since then, they’ve added 3 more

teachers to their roster. They’ve taught over 1000 players in the KC Metro area along with

several groups in other cities such as Des Moines, IA and Denver, CO.

Katie is a certified teacher with Oh My Mahjong! and she uses their teaching program and

materials for her classes.

This is a 2-session course to learn the game. The sign-up is for both lessons

There are 16 spots available. You will sit at tables of 4. If you’re coming as a group and want to sit together, please email us at events@studiofloralandevents.com with the names of your party and we’ll do our best to seat you together

Cancellation Policy: Because our classes require four participants per table, we’re unable to offer refunds. However, if you need to cancel or adjust your date, please let us know at least 48 hours in advance and we’ll happily move your reservation to a future class. You’re also welcome to transfer your ticket to someone else — we just ask that you email us at events@studiofloralandevents.com or call 816‑842‑7244 to let us know
